Voted Best Record Store in 2006 by San Diego Magazine.  Chris Cantore explains:

Chris Cantore
Host, 91X’s "Cantore in the Morning"
“Tower Records declared bankruptcy. Steve Jobs launched his iTunes behemoth. But San Diegan Eric Howarth helped rejuvenate South Park by opening an independent music store. M-Theory Music has since opened two more locations (M-Theory Note- We just have one location in Mission Hills!). CDs, DVDs, vinyl, imports and listening stations aside, M-Theory offers free in-store performances. Genius.”

From Yelp.com:

M-Theory Music

Adam V. writes: M-Theory Music is a first class record store. They have three big things going for them: 1) A friendly staff that plays cool obscure records for your listening pleasure while you shop (an electro-latin cover of Dylan's "Blowing in the Wind" stands out from my last visit), 2) The kind of used CD selection that puts most new CD selections to shame, and 3) Tetris. From AOL CityGuide:

Funky yet lovable M-Theory's just a quick uphill ascent from the I-5 in charming Mission Hills, smack beside the library. The new store is bright as candy and attracts packs of music-worshippers discovering progressively more obscure tunes with zeal.

This store marries the best of some things old, some things new. Patrons can trade played-out CDs, LPs and DVDs for something fancier, or pre-order new releases before they even brush the shelves. Although M-Theory boasts an unscoffable variety of music, small-label and independent melodies reign supreme.  Purchases often come with free giveaways. Besides music, the new M-Theory has heaps of fun goodies displayed for purchase, such as DJ equipment, limited-edition prints, designer vinyl toys, and other hard-to-find novelty items.

Most in-store concerts take place at the Mission Hills store.  Don't be surprised if some local artists show up to harmonize. With such good vibes resounding off the colorful walls, how could they resist? -- Kirsten Noelle Hubbard
